It doesn’t matter where you are headquartered--if you are a 501(c)3 or a community organization doing work in Brooklyn, this is the place for you to find volunteers to help further your mission. At this time, organizations that are included on this site are here by invitation only. If you would like to register your organization on this site, please send a message requesting an invitation to volunteer@bcfny.org.
Does it cost anything to sign up on the site?
No. This site is absolutely free for your organization and volunteers alike. However, if you would like to support Brooklyn Community Foundation and the Do Good Right Here Initiative please visit us here.
How do I create an account?
If you would like to register your organization on this site, please send us an email at volunteer@bcfny.org expressing your interest to receive further instructions on the approval process.
Does the content I post get reviewed and/or edited?
The content you post will be reviewed before it is made live. Brooklyn Community Foundation holds the right to edit any text you enter on the site for public viewing. For more information, please reference the Terms of Use.
How does the flagging system work?
'Opportunities'> 'Review Hours'
Content that may be flagged includes:
- Hours - you will see that a particular record of hours for an assignment
- Opportunities- you will see the cumulative hours logged by all volunteers
- Assignments- you will see that the hours logged by a single volunteer for a given assignment
Flag any suspicious activity you may see. For example a user logging 9 hours for an assignment that was only 2 hours long. Once flagged a report will be automatically sent to our staff for review. If edits are required a message will be sent to volunteer with further instruction on how to resolve the issue.
How do I update my information?
You may update your organization's profile and opportunities by selecting 'My Organization Profile' > 'Edit'. Once you have made the appropriate changes don't forget to 'Save' before exiting the page.
How do I delete my account?
Go to “My Organization Profile' > 'Edit' tab> "Edit Your Account", click here. At the bottom of your account page you will see “Cancel Account.” Once selected, you will be prompted to make sure this action is your intent. Select 'Cancel Account.'
Can I contact users or can users contact me directly through the site?
All communication between your organization and users happens off-site.
How do I track volunteers hours?
You may track volunteer hours through our flagging system. Please note that this section is still in the testing phase.
How do I change my password?
Go to “My Organization Profile” and select 'Edit' tab. At the top of this section select 'Edit Your Account'. Enter in your new username/password. Remember to click on save.
Will my personal contact information be displayed to the public?
No, your account’s personal information will not be shared.
How do I create an opportunity?
Select 'Post your opportunities here' located at the bottom of your profile. Enter in project details and save.
What if my opportunity is happening at multiple times in different locations?
Any information not covered in the text boxes can be included in the description.
What if I don’t know what the monetary value of my opportunity is?
Think of the volunteer position as a job and search online for the monetary value. Please make your best guess.
What does “Serve at home” mean?
Serving at home means that the volunteer work is conducted inside the volunteer’s own home.
What is the difference between the web and email application?
This is for your convenience. Some organizations prefer an online application; others prefer volunteers to first view the organization's website before applying. Many organizations prefer quick email applications. Pick the best option for your organization.
