Brighton Beach

Also know as “Little Odessa by the Sea,” after the port city and resort on the Black Sea. In the 1970s, Many Soviet Jews moved to this neighborhood and transformed Brighton Beach Avenue, populating it with Russian restaurants, shops, and nightclubs.
New Yorkers from other neighborhoods are increasingly drawn to the ocean views of Brighton Beach. Rising property values and overcrowding threaten the unique culture of this ocean side neighborhood, but community involvement in real estate development has helped to mitigate these challenges.
