Carroll Gardens

Carroll Gardens is a residential​, Italian-American working class community that in recent years has attracted many young urban professionals. The neighborhood used to be known as South Brooklyn but was renamed for Charles Carroll , the only Roman Catholic signer of the Declaration of Independence.

Smith Street revitalization efforts have been a huge success; the street is now a heavily trafficked commercial strip that has increased the surrounding property values. The area is now known as “restaurant row,” and the commercial revitalization plan for Court Street has been successful.
