There’s not a messenger-bag toting resident of Brooklyn’s Greenpoint neighborhood who hasn’t brunched at Egg. It has all the requisites for acceptance into hipster culture: glass mason jars to drink from, chalkboard menus, and unfinished ceilings. It's a credit to this narrow diner's staff that the various elements are arranged with enough straightforward charm to put even the skeptics at ease. The breakfast menu trades on classic favorites—adding homegrown veggies and inventive twists along the way. Doodle with Crayolas on the butcher-paper table cloth while your waitress (in possession of obligatory ironic tattoos) runs you through the specials. If you make a good impression she might stick around long enough to tell you about the rustic farm upstate where Egg’s owners grow many of their ingredients. The food however, speaks for itself.
