Corporate Volunteers

Tips for a Successful Corporate Volunteer Experience

1) Research the Organization
Confirm that the organization has capacity for large corporate groups.  Keep in mind that many organizations require donations for large volunteer groups.

2) Be Considerate
Determine if you need to provide any supplies, food, or financial support for these items.  Do not expect the organization to provide your group with lunch or gardening gloves, for example.  Also, when possible, it is helpful to provide an organization with multiple volunteer days/time options.

3) Maximize Your Effort
This is an opportunity to get out of the office, but it can also be a valuable time to team-build, get to know your employees, and have them learn new skills. With every project, make the most of your time.

BRIC Arts | Media | Bklyn Erin Bennett housemanager@bricartsmedia.org 25 Volunteers are the backbone of our events and help to fulfill critical roles to ensure the most positive experience for our guests. We seek volunteers who are ready to have fun and work hard this summer! By joining our team as a volunteer you connect with the cultural life of your community, meet new people and work together to make something incredible happen. Volunteers are the frontline of Celebrate Brooklyn, and act as ambassadors for BRIC Arts Media. Courtesy, respect and customer service are key components of all volunteer roles when working with the public. Additionally, flexibility, the willingness to pitch in wherever needed and positive attitude are critical in this role. We work hard as a team and we support each other as a team – with lots of fun tossed in the mix.

Madison Square Boys and Girls Club Quentin Ball qball@madisonsquare.org 20 Companies can come to our Brooklyn clubhouses for an hour, half a day (during the school year) or a whole day (in the summer). There are generally two types of volunteer opportunities: renovations-focused and member-focused. RENOVATIONS-FOCUSED: •Companies can come to the club when the youth are not present (generally during the mornings) •Projects can include: painting, cleaning, installing, fixing, etc •Generally we ask volunteers to cover the costs of the materials for the project MEMBER-FOCUSED •Companies can attend a club and engage in activities directly with our youth •Companies can sponsor a special event whether it’s a Halloween Party, a basketball tournament or a fashion show •Companies can also work with the youth during their normal activities. We have had success in volunteers being paired with youth for a day and doing the activities they are doing alongside the kid. The benefit is that companies get to see what we do and the kids get to spend time with a positive role model.
